Hey everyone

On various mac forums people are complaining about ML and iOS 6 and I was wondering what would you like to see in either platform?

iOS:

Widgets
Real multitasking
Toggles
FaceTime party (more than 1 person)
More iMessage features to compete with bbm
Update core apps (YouTube, safari etc)

OSX:

Better expose
Better iCloud intergration
Better ram management
Better security for malware
Game centre and more support for major titles
Better OpenGL hardware acceleration
FaceTime party (more than 1 person)
More iMessage features to compete with bbm

Hey everyone

On various mac forums people are complaining about ML and iOS 6 and I was wondering what would you like to see in either platform?

iOS:

Widgets - Never seen the point in them. More widgets for the Notification Center would be nice - Best case scenario is to release an API and allow developers to release NC widgets through the app store
Real multitasking - Never had a problem with the current multitasking setup, and with the battery it currently has, I am definitely against any other method of multitasking at the moment
Toggles - One of the biggest reasons I jailbreak in the first place. A must have!
FaceTime party (more than 1 person) - Would be a nice addition!
More iMessage features to compete with bbm - I'm finding iMessages a bit buggy at the moment, I would rather they iron out the problems first. But some new features would definitely be nice!

OSX:

Better expose - Only ever really use Expose to switch windows - Can't think of how they could better it
Better iCloud intergration - Love the iCloud. Any additional integration would be very much appreciated!
Better ram management - Never had a problem with this
Better security for malware - Never had a security problem... yet!
Game centre and more support for major titles - I hate the Game Centre. Feels very gimmicky. Would rather they improve on it, and its interface first.
FaceTime party (more than 1 person) - Gimmie some FaceTime party!
More iMessage features to compete with bbm - As above!

My views ^

My views are largely the same as Marky's.

iOS
Widgets: Android users always go on about widgets but I personally found them a little pointless; if I need to go into the app to do anything most of the time, why do I need information up on the screen beforehand? NC gives me all the information I need.

Toggles: These would be nice, and has been the main reason that I have jailbroken in the past. However, as the iPhone naturally turns off Wi-Fi and switches to 3G while sleeping, I don't have a need for them and just leave everything turned on - Wi-Fi won't take up too much battery life if you disable the connection prompts for new networks, and Bluetooth uses little power anyway.

FaceTime conferencing: No brainer. Will come in time as Apple tries to move user communications to iCloud.

iMessage features: Building location sharing right in to iMessage would be nice, but aside from that I don't see any need for anything else.

OS X
Don't agree with most of it. Mission Control works well enough and simplifies the previous window management features into one interface. Memory management and security are ones that we can always say should improve, though OS X is pretty good with both of these. Malware...I'll stay out of that debate.

The rest of the features...superior iCloud integration and Game Center will be with you next week, and the rest will come along in the future ;)

I think iOS is in a good state. Siri needs improving if it's going to be a worthwhile piece of software and I'd love to see off-line maps. Apart from that, there's not a great deal that bothers me.

However, there's plenty of things in OSX that are painful and they're really basic things too. Window management on OSX is a pain in the ass. I would love to see OSX borrow some of the shortcuts from Windows for pinning and sizing windows. Windows+right/Windows+left are so handy.

Also, Finder is the worst file manager I've ever used. It fails to live up to its name. :p There's third party apps about that do a far better job.

EDIT: I agree with the RAM management point. So much inactive RAM sitting about and yet it still starts paging.

I haven't used finder in ages... If I want to find something then I just use spotlight :)

The thing I'd like to see is not necessarily a particular feature, but to generally be more bold and innovative. The last couple of releases of both operating systems have been, frankly, quite boring.

Apple have chosen to develop their mobile and desktop OSs separately (unlike Windows), yet they are still grafting iOS-like features onto OSX and incrementally making their core apps look like their iPad counterparts. I don't see the point personally.

I'd even be quite happy if they did another Snow Leopard type release and just focused on the core operating system.

Finder and Spotlight are **** and need a load of improvement so they're actually useful. Tabs, better navigation, a quicker way to search more specifically, metadata display, faster SMB,improvements to quick look etc.
Managing files on OS X is quite horrible.

"Lol wut?"

You must be doing it wrong. Every time I have search for something using spotlight it has found it before I have finished typing, more often than not I only have to type a few letters.

Spotlight is brilliant.... one of the BEST features in Mac OS X

The problem with Spotlight is that it'll only search for indexed files. Plug in an external HDD and it can take up to a day for it to index. In the meantime, you're out of luck - there's no option to force it to search through non-indexed files.

I dunno, I think as it becomes ubiquitous smudgy screens will just become an accepted fact of computing just like dirty keyboards. After the first couple of days do people bother cleaning their iPad screens? I don't, although I occasionally rub my iPhone on my tshirt or whatever to get rid of the fingerprints (not sure why I bother though)
