...for a true 'custom build' service?
At the moment OCUK offer a range of 'custom built' computers, both pre-specified that you can make minor changes to or that come with options for GPU or SSD etc and also the 'configure your own' option that allows a range of choices in all components - but not complete flexibility.
What would be an acceptable premium to you for the ability to choose ANY components from the range OCUK sell and have them assembled? Should it be a fixed amount? Should it be one amount for systems costing less than £1000, higher for systems over £1000 but under £2000 etc. or should it be a fixed %age regardless of cost?
If you are confident then I guess it's 'Nothing', if you have the money but are not confident you may be happy to pay an additional 25% or more. For many the answer will be something else entirely.
Personally, I would be happy to pay an extra 15%, I've build many computers over the years but most of them were 486's! Built a couple more recently but nothing for the past 3 years or so and I remember the pains of trying to fit a big old Zalman CPU fan and ending up using a screwdriver to hook the locking catches into place - the stress of doing that made me swear I would never build another but it's getting close to the time I need to upgrade and the self-build bug is gnawing away at me - but I would seriously consider paying somebody else to build it if I could choose exactly which components went into it!
