Afternoon forumites,

My phone is on its way out, and so I'm looking for recommendations for a not huge phone ~£400 used?

The bigger the battery the better, meaning something like the Z2 Force is out. My issue with things like the Note 8 etc. are that they are absolutely ginormous, and with the addition of a case, they'll be even more...ginormouser

Unless they're ruggedised like the Galaxy S8 Active (which is very hard to find in the UK) I need to add a case and screen protector. Needs to be water resistant, battery larger than 3000MAh unless replaceable (not a thing these days it seems).

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers

I just picked up a BNIB P20 Pro for £435 in the MM
The battery is 4,000 mAH - I'm not a heavy user so the 82% it came with when switched on had only moved down to 15% between Friday night and Wednesday night
So far as size is concerned, I don't think it's that big, but the best thing to do is take your current phone look up the dimensions on GSMArena and compare them to your proposed purchase - the screen/body ratios have all increased so that the P20 Pro is mms bigger than my previous one but the screen sizes are 6.1" v 5.2". Also, on GSMArena it has endurance ratings that enable you to compare battery life

What about the Pixel 2? It's a great mid sized phone. Admittedly the battery is below your spec and on a par with the Z2 force (2700mah) but the Pixels are SO good on battery life that I've found they perform really well in that regard. They've been well reduced already but with the Pixel 3 coming out the market could be flooded with them very soon, if it already hasn't.
They're decently rugged as well, in that, it hasn't got a dainty full glass back like the iPhone X or the Samsung phones. My 2XL has been without a case the entire time I've owned it and it's lived a reasonably charmed life as I mostly work outdoors and there isn't a scratch or a dent on it.

Many thanks for your suggestion - the P20 pro was on the cards precisely for the reasons you mentioned. And I've used GSM a huge amount in this search, but never noticed the endurance rating! A great bit of info.

I've gone for an S8 Active - big battery, inbuilt toughness, and good specs for the money. Shame they never released it here, as it has all the necessary bands to work with all networks.

The 2 XL would've been the one had the one on here but sold just prior to my contact to the seller! The 2 is just a little too small screen wise as I'm used to a 5.4 (though in reality I may not notice...)

It's great that yours sounds so hardy. I'd have had to stick it in a case for safety though. S8 Active en route, so hopefully it's decent.
