Hi guys,

I've got the urge to upgrade something in my system and was wondering what you thought as I can't decide the best route to take to get the best out of my system.

I've got about £100 - £150 to spend.

I'm thinking either processor, graphics card or maybe a new hard drive so any recommendations would be appreciated.

My spec are below: -

E2200 @ 3.2 (Zalman 9700)
Abit IX38 QuadGT
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PC2-8000C5
Powercolor 3870XT
74gb WD Raptor
Coolermaster Staker 830

Thanks

I know what you mean with the urge to upgrade but your system looks pretty fine to be honest :D I don't know what you are looking to achieve but I don't think it's really worth upgrading anything at this point, your system looks good! :)

Maybe an extra HD if you are low on disk space, which I can imagine with only 74gb :p

Just save the rest of the money and upgrade the CPU / Graphics card later this year...

A new hard drive would probably be my choice but if you have a suitable PSU then you could go for Crossfired 3870s or sell the 3870 and put the money from that along with your existing cash for a 9800GTX or similar.

Thanks for the input guys, Just spent a lot of money on the gf so that’s out, I've got a OCZ 1000w power supply so crossfire is an option, but I’m not sure if it's worth the hassle with the game support ? Thinking it might be better to wait and see how the new ATI card does when it's out ?

I would like a bigger hard drive but I don't know which one to get, like the look of the Samsung 320gb F1 drive but can't seem to get them at the moment.

The other option was the processor, looking at an E7200 but don't if I’ll will be that much better or overclock more to justify it's cost.

Thanks

The 500GB is a bit slower than the 340 or 1TB drives because of the density per platter.

I have an F1 1TB and a 250GB WD AAKS, they are both very good drives.

If I buy a new hard drive and keep the raptor how would you guys set it up, have the raptor a the boot drive and the other drive for games or the other way round ?

Does that extra cashe on the Seagate 7200.11 make any difference ?

Any other suggestions?

I would use the raptor for os and games and use the bigger drive for storage and back-up.

Wd decided to stick with 16mb, im sure they had their reasons.

Ok so far i have the Western Digital WD6400AAKS and a E7200 cpu in my basket, hopefully i should see a bit of a perfomance increase, especially if i can get the e7200 somewhere near 4Ghz.

I was looking at the E8400 but i don't know if it will warrent the extra cost over the E7200, will it overclock much more ?

Then I'll wait and see how these new graphics cards do when they eventually come out.

Sound ok ?

I've got the E8400 @ 3.9 on air with stock cooler and voltages.

I'm sure it can be pushed a fair bit further with the proper setup, i'm really impressed with the CPU.
