I would not call myself a gamer, but Speed is essential and I always want my PC to be very responsive. My current rig includes the following:

Processor: E 6700 (@ 3.6 )
Motherboard: Asus P5K Deluxe
Memory:Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA 7900GS
Hard Drive(s): SAMSUNG HD753LJ (750 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
SAMSUNG HD502IJ (500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
Optical Drive(s): TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203D
Cooling: Zalman 9700 LED
Case: Antec 900
Power Supply: JANTEC 700 Modular PSU
Monitor(s): Dell ultrasharp 2408WFP
Operating System: Vista Ultimate 64 SP1

What would you upgrade to improve overall system performance

If you play games i would choose a new graphics card, a HD4850 maybe.

If you're not bothered about games then other than the case, nothing.

Breaking it down, really, i cant see anything lacking in that system other then the graphics card. A 4850 would be a massive bump up and they are at a very nice price atm.

Other then that... maybe go quad if you need it, maybe change the mobo if your thinking of crossfire ( on a 24" monitor you probably shouldnt be)

maybe a velociraptor for the boot/os drive, and if you game then obviously a new graphics card, but other than that you have a pretty good system anyway!

Thanks everyone for your superb contribution. I thought about upgrading the graphic card to a 4870 but I read that It won't make any difference since I am not a gamer...I use my PC mainly for photos, music, general office work, internet and films.

Your massively over specced already for that use unless your doing a lot of video/photoediting or rendering.

maybe a velociraptor for the boot/os drive

Apart from a quad core that would probably be the only other thing I could think of if you wanted to improve your performance, assuming like you said you're not a gamer.

Alternatively you could get 2 HDDs and set them up in a RAID, although it might actually be cheaper to get a velociraptor depending on how big the drives would be if you were to opt for RAID.
