Asus M2N-E Sli Motherboard
4870 1gb
AMD 5200+
Corsair 4gb RAM
750W PSU
250gb HDD

I'm really not sure what to upgrade obviously i want better performance and i have around £130 to spend which i may be able to stretch.

Fire away!

Thanks,

Azure

You bought an SLi mobo and you're running a single ATI card:confused:

Tbh, save your £130 until you can afford and new CPU and mobo. The 4870 is a decent gaming card, add it to a Core 2 system and you have a top notch gaming rig.

Hahaha =D it sounds stupid i know xD but i actually bought the pc with a 8800GT and then i upgraded to the 4870 :)

Edit: could you list the components i would need?

The P5Q is Crossfire compatible, so you could add another 4870 further down the line. It's also a stonking good board for overclocking.

Dual setup - Intel E7400 + ASUS P5Q = £183.98

Quad setup - Intel Q8200 + ASUS P5Q = £214.98

i7 setup - Intel 920 D0 + ASUS P6T SE + 6GB OCZ DDR3 = £381.97

Then just add your 4870, PSU, RAM(new RAM needed for i7 setup), hard drives and shove it back in your case. Depending on whether you want to overclock and what cooler you have currently, you may want to also invest in a CPU cooler. Noctua seem to be favourites atm.

I'm not too hot on the AMD chips. You'd want to get a Phenom II quad tho.

OcUK have a 955 Black Edition (unlocked multiplier for ultimate OCing) for £145.99

Motherboard would be your personal preference, I have no experience with AM3 socket motherboards. You would also need to buy some dual channel DDR3 RAM.

Probably go with something like this

Hmmm that's a lot more pricey than Intel xD so why would i have to go Quad with AMD but could remain dual core with intel?

Good question, I wouldn't advise going dual core anyway now. But if you had to, you would want to go with Intel over AMD. You could take a look at the 'tri core' AMD CPUs. Quad now is a necessity if you want a system to last.

If i were to go quad core intel... could you suggest a cheaper Motherboard than the P5Q because it is quite pricey =P or even a cheaper processor?

p5q with a core2duo would be good for you. id say get that decent mobo over the quadcore, should be able to get a nice overclock :)

or for a bit less phenom2

just an idea
