Just out of interest what would you guys upgrade on this system for better general performance without going to a core I7? I dont play games anymore on the system so graphics wont make much of a difference.
System in sig.

Watch movies and listen to music, browse the web. Occaisionally use Dreamweaver for website editing and also Photoshop. Want to use Photoshop more for editing now as i have just bought a digital camera. Just have some cash lying around and wondering if anyone had any thoughts. Yeh the extra RAM looks like the main obvious upgrade :]

if your using CS4 you may want to consider a GPU upgrade, as it can use you GPU to help render images (please verify). im not sure how much difference it will make though.

a 64bit OS may also be worth looking into along with the additional RAM

Then an extra 2GB DDR2 RAM and if possible a 500GB HDD and as someone else pointed out...a better GPU...4870 springs to mind :D

In order, I'd go for: 64bit OS, another 2GB memory, updated gfx, some additional hdd space. If you're playing with large pictures in PS, you might even want to consider >4GB total.

Having said that, it's a pretty solid system as it stands so you're not going to see a huge improvement from any of these upgrades, just incremental improvements.

I strongly doubt that photoshop takes advantage of graphics card, as it would be odd for ps to do so while no cad applications do. Budget dependent really man, more ram is dirt cheap.
If you want to throw a bit more at it, go to a quad core and clock that. A better dual core will go past 3.2ghz, but the difference between 3.8 and 3.2 might not be that noticable.
