Im considering re-rolling a new character, im currently a drenai warrior, its great for tanking, but id like to be able to do the coolest of spells, summon fire and brimstone, the whole 9 yards.

Which is the best class to do this, Mage? Priest? Shaman? Warlock? Paladdin?

Mage or warlock for you then.Mage for burst damage at the expense of survivability or warlock for lots of damage over time, demon pets and more survivability.

I'd recommend a warlock. I have a priest, mage and warlock above 60, and I have the most fun with the warlock. I'm affliction, which means I do all of my damage over time, but I do a lot, and I only have the 4 normal pets. If a mob can be feared, I can kill it solo with no problems. I eat and drink maybe once every few hours of questing, and I only die if I do something really stupid, like pull too many mobs at once.

Affliction warlocks have a heal dot, improved drain life and improved life tap, so can keep health and mana up forever, so long as they're not taking damage. I play with a voidwalker, which means I don't really get attacked.

Mages kill things much more quickly, however they are quite linear. A frost mage only really has frostbolt as a damage spell, fire has a little more, but not much.

try a mage, lock and shadow priest up to about lvl 30 then choose? though shadow priests don't really come into their own till after 40ish. Whatever one you decide on you'll come back and lvl the others in time (great way to find the good and bad points to all the classes).

The 3 classes are really fast lvling if you spec right and gear right. i like mage most with rogue and affliction lock a very close second.

i'd say shadow priest, LOVED mine. Didnt enjoy the lack of survivability of my mage, found it a bit poo but the damage u can do in 5seconds blows anything out of the water. Priest can do hella damage skills and can survive the best. In PvP i loved nothing more

My affliction warlock has much more survivability than my shadow priest (both 70 with similar gear). For a priest to last any length of time, they need to come out of shadow form, which decreases damage output significantly.

Mages are the best class to play once you have some experience using them, bad side is mana gems cost a lot to create so you dont use them a lot, the main burst damage fire/frost talent spec is very mana demanding and will certainly hurt your manapool (dont use this for arena).

if i say anything then i would pick a shaman as you can switch between going melee and casting, same goes for druids.

The most fun you will have is in an instance and the best class for this is the Priest. Just moved from Shadow to Holy which made a massive difference to my healing ability and ultimately fun!

Hunter is my 2nd fav class and I prefer this for soloing.

At the end of the day they all do pretty cool stuff you have just got to find one that fits your playing style.

Shadow Priest is the most awesome. They melt faces.

Although shadow priest is also the hardest to gear (queue all the people who want to tell us how easy it is...) for the regular player. If you are in a guild, its likely that mages and warlocks will get damage gear before the priest. If you just solo and play 5 man groups, you will probably be expected to heal and so, you will want to gear healing before damage etc. its a PITA.

Can buy my shadowpriest if you like :P

Mages are probably the -easiest- to gear up and play, i dont know about warlocks, ive never played one.

I mainly use my 70 mage for pvp as it's a fun class for that, locks are also fun and you can adopt a very similar style of play if you choose the destruction tree. I'd definitely recommend one of the two classes for your next character although locks are more effective pvp and pve wise at present so you might have a better time 0-70 on one of them.

One thing to point out is that since rogues got cloak of **** you're going to have a hard time fighting them as a caster, it'll be a real contrast to how you deal with them on your war :)
