well i asked this question on the overclock.net forum and well my english and knowlage is not so good so they where not nice to me. so im asking my question here instead i got 2.1 speakers and a pc 360 headset i'm looking at the xonar stx and d2x what would be best for gaming and music i also would like to use virtual surround for gaming

See this is why I come back to ocuk because the people are nice ;D will they work good for virtual surround too?

also will it fit in my pc? I got a Noctua nh d14 and p8p67 deluxe mobo and 2x 6970 and I want to put the sound card in the top pci-e 1 slot will that work?

Yes it should. I have 2 7970s in my case. The Xonar only takes up 1 slot, so if you can see the slot above your graphics cards it should be ok. You do need a molex power source for it inside the case though for the amplifier.

The drivers are pretty good for the virtual surround. I don't use mine for watching movies but it seems ok. There are some custom drivers for it I think that might be better, but I'm currently using the official windows 8 drivers.

What motherboard do you have? Just in some motherboards putting something in the x16 slot might lower the speed of all slots to x8 or x4.

He stated the P8P67 DELUXE in post #5. Unlike the blue and white slot, the black slot is x4, controlled by the chipset instead of the CPU. So the 6970s will not be affected.

The Xonar STX would be an excellent match to your existing 2.1 speakers and Sennheiser PC360 headset.

I also have a pair of Sennheiser PC 360s. I upgraded from a Xonar DX (not D2X) to a Xonar STX and found it to be a very worthwhile upgrade.

I get excellent virtual surround sound in games from the Sennheiser PC360s and Xonar STX with Dolby Headphone switched on. They sound great with music. The only surround sound feature that I can see on the D2X that's missing on the Xonar STX is DTS Connect (the STX does support Dolby Digital Live). Since you're using 2.1 speakers, you wouldn't miss DTS Connect. I doubt if you could hear the difference between Dolby Digital and DTS except with high-end home theatre equipment anyway.

My guess is, that whoever said that, was talking about the H6 add on board connector, that is found on the ST is not on the STX. Essentially that would turn the ST into a sound card with 7.1 analogue connections, which the D2/X and most other Xonar's have, bar the DG/X, which is 5.1.

As you are not using 7.1 connections, then it doesn't matter that the STX doesn't have it.
