What xvid to divx converter?

I have a load of files that used to play on my old HCPC but not on my new media center.

I want to re encode them to play in standard divx (or even xvid). any ideas where to start?

That's a bit of an extreme step, tried installing FFDShow to see if you can get them playing?

If not ID the codec used with GSpot and I'm sure someone round here can find the right thing needed to get them playing without wasting massess of time re-encoding the files.

The media player is hardware and codecs won't help.

The issue is with some files ghosting and other just not playing while most are fine.

What is your playback device? I take it a streamer or Mpeg-IV DVD player?

if the above updates don't work, you can transcode the files in virtualdubmod
