Hi Guys,

I recently built a new system, however I installed latest Nivida drivers and when I went to look in the properties menu>advanced setting and clicked on adapter, it showed that total memory is 751MB for the GFX with 459MB shared system memory.

The card has already 256MB, i dont what to share it with the system, how can I not share it

Thanks

AbZ

I have the same 'problem' on my computer. the question is, is vista taking 495mb of ram and just using it for graphics, or is it using it as a virtual memory type thing? which it doesn't use, unless the game goes over 256mb of video ram.

As far as I'm aware Vista is using it for the Aero desktop, once you enter a game it will unload giving the game your full graphics card memory. Nothing to worry about, its better to be used than left doing nothing! :)

nVidia TurboCache:

Windows Vista now controls the allocation of system memory to the GPU for
TurboCache functions. The Windows Vista Display Properties pages show
the shared system memory (SSM), or how much memory is allocated for
NVIDIA GPUs to use for TurboCache.

The current driver allows a maximum amount of shared system memory for
each NVIDIA GPU as follows:

• GeForce 6 series: Maximum of 495 MB* where the system memory is 2 GB
and higher
• GeForce 7 series: Maximum of 495 MB* where the system memory is 2 GB
and higher
• GeForce 8 series: Maximum of 767 MB* where the system memory is 2 GB
and higher
