Heya all! Well my first post on OC Forums :)

Im basically buying me own comp like in a weeks time from scratch and for the past few weeks iv'e been spec'in it out, so i came up with a spec in the region of my budget (£800-£850) and iv'e come up with quite a high-end spec imo but now im askin for a second opinion! Btw this is my first build so should be fun. :p

Here's what i came up with :-

Motherboard

ASUS A8N32 - SLi - Can be found on OC

CPU

AMD Athlon 64x2 4600+ (SKT-939) - Can be found on OC
Memory

OCZ 2GB Dual Chan Kit - Can be found on OC
Graphics

BFG 7950GT OC - Can be found on OC

Hardrive

Maxtor Diamond PLUS10 (200GB) - Can be found on OC

DVD-ROM

Pioneer DVD-111DBH - Can be found on OC

PSU

HIPER TYPE R 580W MOD - Can be found on OC

As you can see this is what iv'e choose, given a basic description too ^^ but some of you "hardcore" pc'ers will know quite abit about em. Iv'e gone for what i hope to call a gaming spec as i play competitive gaming quite abit (CSS - Rolls eyes) ^^ , but what i'd like too know is what should i go for instead of... or what i can go for instead of... or... if this is a decent gaming spec. I have some good pc knowledge and its still growing everyday, and hopefully after christmas im going to set out and do microsoft certifications, then go on and climb the ladder (CISCO cert) etc, most of my knowledge is down to my dad tbh he's been through all the courses and got high up and where he wants to be as his job is quite demanding (very) ! So after this build in the next week or so i'll have more confidence to spot a good CPU etc when i see one without asking for sooo much help^^ but its part of a learning curve for me. Anyway thx for taking your time to read this and hopefully i'll get some good feed-back

Thx again,

Dan

tbh u would b better of going something like this m8 for about same cash, a much more powerful pc, better parts ect

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB)
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Ki
HIS ATI Radeon X1900 GT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 200GB ST3200820AS SATA-II 8MB Cache
NEC AD5170 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply

Subtotal £612.85
VAT £107.25
Total £720.10

That cpu u picked, the conroe far better choice
the combo of the 3, m/b /ram/cpu all go grt together, look around forum, loads got them with amazing results.
The seagate if far better than maxtors, most would tell u 2 aviod maxtors
Nec make great dvd drives
The G card is impressive, bonus with it it comes with silent cooler
The Psu, again a few would tell u 2 aviod hyper :)

give it a thought m8, rather than going AM2, conroe is the way forward for a grt performing machine :)

Agreed, you are buying into yesterdays technology with AMD skt 939. As good as they were they simply cannot keep pace with even a low end core2duo system. For a similar price you should be able to get an E6400 based system that will be much faster than the AMD one you propose.

i think the Allendale E6300 is sufficient and its a gd overclocker...

Socket 939 should not be in the consideration..

as above go c2d especially if it's a new build and you are spending that much anyways!

just as a rough guideline for you the cheapest allendale c2d the 6300 is a excellent overclocker, this will destroy the fx60+62 series and it costs around £130 lol :)

goodluck on the build and welcome to the forums

Hey Guys! Well iv'e had a thought about this "conroe" and iv'e decided to go for it aswell as some other changes. Guna go for the conroe, ATI X1900 XT which is abit more than the BFG i choose but im guna wait for some more funds to come which should be in about 2 weeks time. Also iv'e decided to scrap the OCZ Dual chan kit and go for 1GB GeiL, and as for the motherboard i read in mico mart that there are no pins on the cpu, there on the motherboard which i didnt know so im guna go for the asus somethin or other forgot now lol! As for the PSU and hardrive etc i still havent made my mind up yet so.. i'll need to do some more research, anyway than for the feedback guys i'll let you know how the build goes :)

Thx
