Upgraded my camera from a sony a33 to a nikon d7000.

The nikon comes with 2 lens,Nikon 50mm 1.8 Prime and a Nikon 35mm 1.8 Prime.

With my sony i used the 55-200 a lot as it covered a lot of my photos, what lens what i need for the same range, would like a 30-200 if there is one.

Not sure on budget but around the £100 to £150 range.

The 55-200mm gets good reviews and can be had for a smidge over £100, otherwise its a 18-200mm which is going to be closer to £400 I think.

That is new prices of course, but even 2nd hand I think you will be £200 or more for the 18-200mm.

Thanks for the recommendations people, there seems to be a few 'different'versions of said lens, could you point me in the right direction with a link to the lens please, just wanted to gauge the different lens on offer.

There is only one 55-300mm:

There is only one 70-300mm you should consider (there is a very old one without VR but it should be ignored, its terrible)

The 55-200mm has recently had an update. The new version collpass when not used and is a bit lighter. Not really any reviews out to judge if the optics are any better.
The old one is much cheaper:

Here is the new one

I think I would take the 55-300mm over the new 55-200 but would consider the original 55-200 as a bargain option.

I got a second hand 70-300mm but it was faulty so returned it and picked up the 55-300, it got very good reviews as far as the optics were concerned, the only slight negative was the autofocus being slower than the 55-200 and 70-300.

However, so far after a few weeks of use I have found it to be more than fast enough for my needs to be honest.

I'm no professional by a long shot but am keen on photography,i like the look of that 55-300 and im sure will do me for quite a while.
