Well, me and Johnz0r challenged each other to a F1 race, so this afternoon he got to mine and low and behold, F1 doesnt do 2 player split screen, right ill whip your ass on motorstorm..........nope, no split screen either. Ended up on Virtua Fighter, which is a good fun game, and R:FoM.

Back in the day even of the Playstation and Dreamcast you could get a mate around and have good old 2 player split screen fun on almost any game, what happened, do games companies just presume us nerds have no mates :(

Blame it on the internet I guess.
Nowadays everyone seems to have internet and now that console's are doing it as well it just seems like developers rather save some money and only include internet gamin :p
Ahh, remember all the fun I had with Red Faction on the PS2 or MOH on the PS, was brilliant fun!
I really want a PS3 but will prob be the only one in my group of friends to afford one, if we can't do splitscreen then what's the point? ]
Dammit, I wish it was still the age of the PS :D

Oh the fun of that game. Blow a hole in the wall where the X is and get the railgun and shoot your mate through a brick wall while hes sitting next to you looking confused with a WTF expression on his face.

yea i was thinking the same. im the only one of my mates to have ps3 but were all keen f1 fans, was serious let down when i discovered f1 was sp only! :(

Splitscreen is fun, and I too was gutted when I heard about F1 (just before I bought it) but the whole vertical split makes me have headaches.

Everytime I try turning right it just seems "wrong", and drives me nuts.

Motorstorm is crying out for split screen.

Personally I find multiplayer with another person / people much more fun than online multiplayer. Split screen also works so much better now with widescreen TV's than the old letterbox view that horizontal splitscreen used to give.

The very best multiplayers are single screen though or single splitting to two like The Warriors.

The console has to work a lot harder in split screen mode... could be that in some games performance wasn't adequate, and they were too lazy to change it.

I love Rainbow six vegas splitscreen on the 360, co-op terrorist hunt is a blast!

I think that playstation 3 games are the main culprites in terms of splitscreen, lack of it, that is.

I also played a lot of split screen PGR3 when the 360 came out.
My mate's completely spastic when it comes to racing games :p

Sony consoles have always been about the solitary experience. The N64 was the console to have for multiplayer in the PS1 days.

Add Earth Defense Force 2017 to the list of Split-screen Coop games, most fun i've had on the 360 for a long time.

What's it like to play as I've seen it on other websites for sale but haven't heard of it.

I thought about the performance issue too. But look at Gears of War. It still looks amazing in split screen and runs fine. But i dont think its that the console has a harder time of doing split screen. Of course there is more things to calculate, but thats what the two cores in the 360 does and two of the 7 in the PS3 should do. Agreed that MotorStorm is a shambles without split-screen. They were obviously too lazy to code it.

360 has 3 cores and the PS3's cores don't exactly work like that.

What's annoying is that nowadays every TV is widescreen, and HD TV's tend to be large - this would be ideal for side by side split screen, giving each player a large enough view, and yet very few games employ it.
