as topic says, what is a good upgrade with the p.c that ive got atm?, or will i stay with the gpus ive got??? till the new games im wanting to play come out, ie, ofp2 and Arma 2??? mostly play cod 4 and waw atm, and everything runs sweet allbeit at a lowly 1280x1024 res, p.s waiting to get A new monitor in the 1600x 1024 res range:)

Well, for that kind of resolution you're looking at the GTX260 or the 1GB 4870. Both cards perform very similarly and are great value. They'll handle any game up to that resolution with ease.

neither of those cards would be much of an upgrade, especially in sli optimised games as the 8800 GTS performs similarly in sli to a GTX 260, just as a 9800 GX2 performs similarly to the GTX 280, no single card atm would be worth upgrading to unless you went for the GTX 285, or even the new GTX 275, but the performance boost wont be that big.

I forgot he already had SLi'd 8800s, I was in the 'spec me' mode there.
You make a good point, at the resolution he's playing at, those 2 cards SLi'd should handle the majority of games extremely well.

Have you got any benchies comparing the GTS 640 to the 260/4870? I would like to see if the difference is as little as you say.

The biggest boost you would get atm would be with the gtx295 or 4870x2 for best possible performance imo but does depend on what your budget is.
The performance increase would be nice but then if your setup still runs games fine atm then wait a while see what happens at the end of the year when the next gen gfx cards come about

Upgrade your monitor before upgrading your graphics cards. Before my 4870 I had a single 8800GTS640 and even that ran everything at full tilt at 1280x1024. It only started to struggle when I upgraded my monitor to 1920x1200.

Upgrade your monitor before worrying about which graphics card to get. At 1280x1024 there is not much point in upgrading from an 8800GTS.

If you absolutely must upgrade go for a bargain GTX260 for £150 and overclock the nuts off of it. You could then use a spare GTS as a Physics accelerator.
