At the moment i use oscommerce for my dads website, but to be honest its nothing special. Lately it fails to email him when he makes a sale. Also it seems very 'bitty' when adding products, which just makes it easy to make mistakes. The product attributes are a right pain.

Are there any alternatives i could use? We are attempting to take it a step further and purchase some sort of shopping cart software. I havent done this before, what is required? Do i just buy some script then just alter and manage it to how i like ? He said he wouldnt mind spending maybe £200-£300. The hosting we have is ok, but maybe i would be better getting some UK hosting.

Any help or product suggestions would be most welcome, oscommerce is simply not good enough when it comes to fool proof or ease of use.

Thanks allot,
Ryan

Well Cubecart 4 came out today. It is not open source like oscommerce but it has a lot of good features and a great community with cheap mods and skins.

However if your willing to spend money then you may want to look at ekmpowershop or actnic catalogue. Both of these a feature rich and require a monthly fee as opposed to a flat fee. Ekm for example include the hosting with a shared SSL cert in their monthly fee and you can test drive it on their website.

I don't have much experience in these things [read: none] but I am with Hostmonster and they provide some e-commerce stuff you can use on your websites. Might be worth a look.

Although having just re-read the thread hostmonster is not based in the UK as far as I know. Oh well :p
