Why not just use a background that spans both the screens? You don't need any special software for that.

I have two screens myself, and i find the larger images spanned over two screens look nicer than two differing backgrounds, personal taste though obviously.

UltraMon's not freeware though - it might be a bit overkill for something as trivial as having different wallpapers on different screens, if indeed that's all the OP wants (not easy to be 100% sure).

The free version of DisplayFusion might do the job: http://www.displayfusion.com/
