Ok, I got an X800GTO2 in my Conroe box... Nice card, and does me fine.
I got an X1600 in my Opteron box, which was a mistake
I got an XFX 6600GT ( This one is AGP though ) in my X2 4400 box and thats ok.

I fancy a bit of an upgrade without wasting too much money...

The X800 is going to replace the X1600 and the X1600 is going to replace the hole in the bin, so I just need somethign thats a tad better than the X800 really.

I have thought about clocking the X800 and maybe enabling the extra pipes, but its still under warranty so dont really fancy it just yet ( Being the owner of 6 dead ATI cards sort of makes you a bit weary about them - none were clocked at all )

So, what is a good option right now?

Erm, this is new by the way...
 
What's the most you would wanna spend? And I guess it's a PCI-E card? And there's no point binning the X1600, might as well make a little bit on ebay eh :p

Can any of you guys run AquaMark3 for me please?

And what system you are running it on too?

Give me an idea on how it fares, and what I should be looking at for the money?
 
From all reports, the X1950pro runs slightly faster than the x1800xt, with the added benefit of it has 36shaders for shader heavy games, which the x1800xt didnt IIRC.
 
3DMark 03 gave me 11111

Im going to run 05 now and I dont have 06 so I need to get that in a bit.

I dont really rate 3DMark anymore because it can give wild results that often cannot possibly be used reliably

But as a general idea, it will provide me with what I need to know.

Right, on to 05 then..

Ok, so the X1950 is about twice the speed then?

Just double-checking my results vs yours, and I noticed that

SERVO had 11031 in 3DMark05

Oh, while Im here, I have just decided to MOD the BIOS to X850... Decided that it might be worth it if Im getting a new card anyway, so...

I have done it... I have had the HTML files since the day I got the card actually and so all I did was make sure I got a recent BIOS for it and I did it.

I had a bit of an iffy time I got to admit cos the Windows flash would not go ( It was 56K and the new one was 64K ) and even the ATIDOS one was warning me like hell, so I thought... Ah stuff it, I got PCI Cards if it went belly up, and I forced it and its now gone in just peachy... Doesnt knmow if its an 800 or an 850 mind you, but ~I have just re-run 3DMark 05 and I scored 12.890 so a small bonus and its not clocked either??? - According to the docs I should be able to get at least 500/540 and as it is, its 400/490 so thats a further 20% or so that it should do??? - might be an option some other time.

But anyway... Back to my main point of this post right now, is that if I am now getting 12K in 3DMark05 ( Still not run '06 though ) and 11K seems to be about right for the X1950 then getting that card isnt what I want at all is it?

Im not actually getting an upgrade?

OR am I just confusing myself here??? Is that just the XT and the Pro is much faster?

Anyway... Newer card, different results in '06 so I really do ned to D/L it and see more I suppose?

Perhaps I'll have a shot at overclocking the card too maybe?
 
You said 11111 was 3dmark 2003 originally!

There's no way you are getting 12k+ in 3dm2005 on an x800 regardless of what mods you do. Even the x850xt-pe will be beaten fairly comprehensively by a x1950pro so it's definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

I probably did mean 03 then... I just run the thing and walked away while it did it... Must have run 03 thinking I did 05??

Could have sworn I did though?

Anyway, 06 had finally downloaded and I ran it... Its just finished and I got.... Cough cough...

Ok ok, so I only got 1965 FFS! - So 5K+ for the 1950 in 3DMark06 does indeed seem a good upgrade then.

Ok, I will re-run 03 and 05 again cos I've obviously messed up there somehow?

Ok, run it... Yeah, 05 gave me 5625

I wont bother with 03 right now... I take it that I obviously did run the wrong one then.... Hey, they all have the same icons... Its an easy mistake to make..

So, on this then, I get

03 = 12K
05 = 5K
06 = 2K

Rounded off...

So, in otherwords, I was right before then... The X1950 is double the speed of the X800.

Ok job done.

( And I've softened the missus up - I will put my dead x700 in the PC and fake this one's death cos it artefacts like hell and she wont be able to do her sodding Argos shopping eh? - LOL - and therefore will be happy with me spendign even more cash - PMPL )
