whats a NB fan

my only idea it was something to do with northbridge
and do i need a NB fan i've got a socket for it on my mobo but nothings connected to it

Northbridge fan, yes.

If it didnt come supplied, then you do not need one.
It is for us enthusiasts you insist on ppushing the limits of the designs by increasing voltages, overclocking etc. They create more heat.

cheers just wanted to clarify so my northbridge is that little thing near the CPU with a black heatsink on

Probably. One of them is the Northbridge, one of them is the southbridge, I forget which. It has a heatsink on, so no need to worry.

the one by the cpu socket is the northbridge! if you have good cooling in the case the nb will be fine!

ok thats good then where does speedfan get all it's info from
like hdd temp and system temp is system temp built into the mobo cause the only sensor i can see in my system is the one attached to the CPU heatsink
it even tells me my hard drive temps also what is core temp?

The sensors are built into the chips / boards. The one you are referring to is probably the CPU fan. Thiose headers are fan headers. 4 pin is for PWM control (+12v, 0V, sense and PWM) 3 pin has the first 3.
Coretemp and speedfan are 2 different programs to read the information that the board and chips tell it.
