I have just started to dabble in overclocking and do not want to go past a sensible overclock.

The CPU is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and the graphics card is a Sapphire X1950Pro.

I have overclocked both by 10% and now running at:

2.2Ghz on the processor and 573.75 / 1514 on the graphics card.

In terms of temperature I am looking at 30C on the CPU and 39C on the graphics card.

This is air cooling and I have a Zalman cooler (round one with the 120mm fan within the blades) on the CPU and stock cooling on the graphics.

Got 2Gb of Geil DDR2 running in dual channel not overclocked.

Would it be reasonable to overclock more and if so by how much or should I just stick with what I have got?

Cheers

A sensible overclock is simply one you personally feel comfortable with.

Some people dont like high temps, others too much vcore. Others are happly aslong as its stable. I personally would say you could quite easily get some more out of it but thats just me - maybe you don't feel 'comfortable' and maybe I aint 'sensible' - see what I mean;).

Dont want to dabble in playing with voltages - my knowledge and appetite does not stretch that far.

If you google prime 95 and Orthos both will test for stability then you can increase your overclock by 5MHZ at a time and then do a 12 hour stability test if it passes go up another 5 until it fails, then knock it back then in my mind you will have a nice overclock without messing with voltages.

Have a go it's great fun and if you follow what advice Webbo has given you'll not go wrong, he's the top of the quad database and he wouldn't have a chance of being there unless he really knew his stuff, I've read a lot of what he's wrote on here and not only does he know his stuff but he's helpfull and gives great advice.

But BE WARNED it's very addictive.

I'd say, just try it 10Mhz at a time, observe the temperatures and go till it isn't stable anymore. Then just go back 10Mhz :) You don't really have to worry about breaking anything... Just don't do stupid things like setting the VCore to the max setting and **** and you'll be fine:D

Use the dark force of AMD my young padawan! Yes this one has much to learn. :D

No swearing
