I've read in their T&Cs that all returns from now until some point can be done up to 8th January. Does this include MacBooks? I've read loads of people saying they returned them from MacBook Pros etc.

Can you just use it and if you don't like it, return it and upgrade?

When did you buy it? The usual policy is fourteen days no questions asked. That includes a full refund or an exchange. If you were wanting to upgrade then what you'd do is get a refund then purchase the new machine.

If done in store they will do it there and then and only charge you the difference. If done online then you will usually have to send it back to the warehouse (they arrange a pickup) for inspection and you would be refunded in 7-9 business days. That of course means if you have the cash you can buy a new model - however, if you need the refund money to purchase a new model then it's best doing it in store.

The fourteen days has been extended over the christmas period up until the 7th of January 2007.

Oh and of course if it's broken then the limited returns policy doesn't matter, you're covered under the Apple warranty for at least a year.

PS: There can be special exceptions made regarding returns.

If I recall correctly, you can only return stock built machines (i.e. no custom options). If you change something (i.e. add more memory, go for a bigger hard drive etc) then you have to pay a restocking fee which is a percentage of original price.

Read it very carefully.

Nope, CTOs are in the same basket.

Oh yeah ok.

But, if you are returning it because you simply changed your mind then

D. The following transportation charges will apply:

i) If the total purchase price of the Product(s) returned is less than £300 excluding VAT the charge payable by you for the return is £30.00 (inclusive of VAT).

ii) If the total purchase price of the Product(s) is more than £300 excluding VAT the charge payable by you for the return is £60.00 (inclusive of VAT).

The appropriate transportation charge will be deducted from your refund payment once the Product(s) has/have been inspected and deemed complete and in good condition by Apple.

Read that carefully.
