Hi all

I'm looking at replacing my only partly used logitech 5.1 set-up (Only use 2.1 other speakers in box) with a nice 2.0 set-up, I'm looking at the below -

Audioengine A2+ pc speakers = £174

OR

Topping VX1 AMP\DAC and Q Acoustics 2010i = £170

So this would be used mainly for games and other general use.....so what do you think?

Thanks

Of the two choices mentioned, I'd go for the Topping VX1 + bookshelf speakers. The Audioengine A2 are very good speakers, but in my opinion they are a little expensive for such a small speaker that only has a 2.75" woofer. With the VX1, you can connect your headphones to it as well and have an accessible volume control, rather than having to fumble round the back of the speaker.

For gaming though, maybe a set of 2.1 speakers would be a better choice; Acoustic Energy Aego M, or Corsair SP2500.

I think that's something only you can decide. I don't miss bass from a subwoofer at all, but then I'm not keen on too much bass.

I'm not really the best person to advise on whether you're likely to miss the bass by moving to bookshelf speakers. I don't play that many games now, and bass when gaming is something I've never been that concerned with really. Bookshelf speakers offer far better quality of bass compared to cheaper 2.1/5.1 PC speakers, which is usually more about quantity and is over bloated. Fine for games, but terrible for music. The bookshelf speaker I have are ideal, but I do use them mainly for music, which they are fantastic.

I think Marine would be better placed to offer his opinions when it comes to gaming, as he's more of a gamer than I am, and he has used Aego M, SP2500 and bookshelf speakers for gaming.

Hmm ok thanks for input...yeah I'm not really a bass person so I may be good....Ok I will keep looking at the AMP bookshelf option....

Im guessing no one has a an issue with the Topping VX1, seems like a good amp\dac...
