I ordered the first parts for my WC setup, Thermochill 120.2 rad and some 3/8" barbs to fit it.

I was just wondering, when fitting the barbs to the rad is it best to use PTFE tape or a joining compound such as Hawk White?

My friend is a plumber and he says that he prefers to use the old compound than the PTFE as it has a tendancy to deteriorate(spelling) over time? Does anyone here have any experience in the apllication for these compounds in a PC, or should I just stick with the PTFE...?

yeah this was my feeling too, but Ive assembled household radiators before, and when doing to with the valves we put 13 winds of PTFE on (obviously on a 3/8" you wont even need half of this) but also we put on some jointing compound on top of the PTFE, is this really necessary is PC watercooling?

I guess the temperatures are nowhere near as high... :o

aye dont like the sound of superglue lol, Im sure it would crack, blister and break up under prolonged use lol!

not to mention the fact it would be a bitch to undo the thread lol?

hope it stopped the leak tho?

Just the PTFE tape will be fine. We used to use it on high pressure bottled gas systems (CO2, air, nitrogen etc) in the RAF and it does a fine job.

it was a tiny leak but the nylon barb wouldn't tighten anymore. Yes its stopped it and no I won't be able to get the barb off I imagine.
