I have the Linksys WRT54GL

and the Buffalo WHR HP G54-1(intel viv)

My sister needs one at her place and her place is a big 4 bed room house and i need one for my smaller 3 bedroom house.

My sister will be using wireless where as i might not as i still prefer hard wiring(old fashioned:D)

i have both here so money doesnt matter as they are allready bought but really which one is the better one as i get to have of them for free so to speak:)

Personally i think the Buffalo looks better visually and spec wise but then the link sys has 2 aerials which may mean increased range? or at least they can be removed and higher gain aerials installed

cheers

I would say the inksys is better, I have the GL model with DD-DRT firmware which gave me so much more features (some of which is useless to me I must admit :) ). Nevertheless its been rock solid so far and hasnt failed me.

the buffalo can use the DD-DRT firmware as well, i'm using mine with the Tomato firmware and has been running for over a month with out rebooting and the wireless is stable too. plus i like the slim compact design :)

So whats so good about this tomato firmware?

And as the linksys has 2 aerials does this mean increased range?

not sure if 2 aerials are better but the Buffalo has a Built-in Amplifier which should improve wireless performance and extend the range.

The Tomato firmware gives extra features for you to play with on your router such as adjusting the wireless transmit power, monitoring your bandwidth usage, more advanced QOS and access restriction etc.
