At the moment i am connected via a BT extension that is hardwired into the socket downstairs, then my router is connected to the socket in my room and i am connected wired.

I fitted all thsi and made a bit of a bodge job in making it look all tidy downstairs, holes in the wllas etc :P

My parents are getting in an electrician to do a few odd jobs around the house, this being one of them as was wondering, would it be best for the router to be right next to the phone socket downstairs, then have a RJ45 socket running up rather than a phone line?

Will i see better speeds / lower pings?

Im not grumbling at the moment, getting 6mb in speed tests, but sync'd at the full 8mb.

Thanks

You'll see neither better speeds nor pings, because you're already getting full rate. You might see a slightly improved SNR margin ("Downstream margin"), but that won't change anything.

What is your package, an up to 8meg? if so yes your at full speed.

if other this might be worth trying, but I would test it first before drilling any holes or fitting the cable properly...

edit, just noticed its up to 8meg, so probs no difference

so its basically six and 2 3's with what i do.

It doesnt matter which way i do it as the electrician will be tidying things up anyway, which way would be best to go with, or is it whichever is easiest?
