Hey Guys,

Upgrading my CPU cooler and just wondering whats the best option to remove the paste, normally just used watered down white spirits but its been a while since I've done this.

Cheers

i dont know about white spirit, but i got some cheap 99.99% alcohol and used that - worked a treat :)

Isopropyl alcohol 100% is the only way to go. First with a tissue to get the bulk off, then use a microfibre lint-free cloth to clean off any other dust/lint left over.

Varnish remover is acetone which will leave a residue, not ideal. Plus it usually has other stuff in it which also will leave a residue.

IPA / Isopropanol / Isoropyl Alcohol

You will not find true 100% IPA, or it would be very very expensive, 99.9% is pretty much the same, but much cheaper.

Be careful a lot of nail varnish remover has moisturiser and all sorts of other stuff you don't want to be putting on your cpu in.

Cheers guys,

Off to find some isopropyl before my new CPU cooler gets here on tuesday.

The Akasa stuff works eventually but isopropyl is much easier to use, gets it done quicker and generally does a better job I think.
