Hi,

Im still deciding what to get a Q6600 or E6600.
I like having lots of applications running, and I use photoshop/flash, dreamweaver, fireworks a lot of the time together and more.

But Ive heard some places for single jobs E6600 is better? Is that true or are they the same?
Ive also heard, you have to turn off 2 or 3 cores for certain programs or games?

Also, Im going to be getting the Zalman Reserator 2, what kind of overclocking ghz could I get from them?

Im just hoping the Q6600 doesnt run slower for games.

Thanks guys

Welcome to the forums :)

They both have the same 2.4Ghz clock speed so should be the same speed in single thread applications and the Q6600 may be quicker than the E6600.

If you can afford the quad core then go for it - but personally id go for the dual core and save a couple of hundred quid :)

^^^ Agree with Meatloaf. Any games that have problems with 4 cores will also have problems with 2.

Wait for 22/7/07 for quad core price cuts...

im waiting for the price cuts for a quad so if your building now maybe u should wait to build and re-asses what cpu then

Sweet, Ill wait till the price cut, but my best bet will probably be the Q6600, even if the other quads drop price.
If I overclock the Q6600, *** can I get it up 2, with the Zalman reserator 2? or the other quads with Intel?

Thanks for all the replies. Really helpful.

u sell the e6600 @ 120ish and use what in the meantime?

what if the price cuts are delayed? or dont even hit england for 2 months later (has happend before)

After selling my e6600 i got a 3.4ghz P4 for £25 delivered.

Is so sloooooowwwww! :(

Would imagine an e4300 or equivelent would be much much better.

Just a random question, but when you people buy new processors for the same motherboard, do you format and reinstall windows?

For example, if I build a new intel system and stick a E2140 in there temporarily, would I need to reinstall windows when I stick in a quad core once the price cuts come into place later on?

Reason I ask is because I ended up reinstalling Windows XP when I went from Athlon 64 to A64 X2.
