Whats better, Opteron 165 or E6300?

At stock the e6300

Overclocked the e6300

I had a 165 and even clocked around 3ghz was still slower than my e6600 @ stock (2.4ghz) :)

If going withe the DS3 many look to Geil for compatible ram as they seem to be the least temperamental!

Had no probs with mine! :)

Great price too!

cool, will have to get some of this kit in after im shut of this crappy laptop.

I know this isn't the forum for all this, but a 7600GT is a decent enough graphics card right? I very occasionaly play Live for speed and COD2, these will be allright at 1680x1050 on this card?

It might suffice, personally I wouldn't like it. The 128bit memory interface will really start to rear its ugly head at that resolution.

If you let it go on MM you may get £60ish for it. Then you could invest £20 or £30 on top of that to get something cheap like a 7800gt £70-£75 delivered or even an x1900xt as i've seen a few go for under £100! :)

They're excellent cards at great prices and would pretty much totally eclipse the 7600 at that res!

My old x850xt (less performance than the 7600 but not that far off!) couldn't quite handle my belinea but my next upgrade to a 7800gt did wonders! The GX2 is close to overkill but i like it that way!!! ;)

fair enough, I have a pretty tight budget though, any card must have dual DVI, and must be nvidia, too many bad experiences with ATi have put me off.

6300 it is then. I take it the gigabyte DS3 is the motherboard of choice for these, how about RAM?

DS3P my personal best bang per buck nipping the p5n-e sli due to its better SATA controller.

RAM I'll take the safe conservative route - 150quid(you get what you pay for) for 2gig of Corsair C4 but I've heard bad things about them recently. Failing that some crucial ballistix should do the trick...

Anyone else concur as I've not been too hot on the RAM lately.
