whats better to have?

i've got 2 ram slots and 3 cards, is it better to use 2x 256MB DDR 400Mz or one 512 Mb DDR ... would it be advisable to use one of the 256 with the 512?

It all depends upon your motherboard but I would go for more ram to help windows runs bettter than a bit more performance with dual channel (if your board supports it). So 1*512 and 1*256.
