Why is one better over the other?

Alternatively would you wait for better cards to be released, any in the pipeline? I know cards are released all the time but just wondered if anything was being released any time soon?

In performance there is little to choose, if the choice was only out of those 2 I'd take the 260 for the extra RAM.

There's not much coming soon, the step up is simply the 4890 / 275 and they are out, the only things that are likely to be changing at all are drops in price IMO, but I dont think they will be big just gradual.

260 assuming it's the 216 core version.

After having both a 4870 512mb and now a 216 core GTX260 I would say the GTX260 especially if you overclock it as they overclock like crazy and then beat stock GTX280's.
