Hey all,

Turned my pc on this evening, checked emails and browsed a bit, all fine.
Started up WOW played for about 5 mins then it froze and corrupted the screen, loads of vertical lines.
I then restarted, and all I get is a BSOD then it shutsdown.
However, if I start in safe mode with networking the display seems fine and it starts up ok (typing this on it now)
I have tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, and it starts ok, then goes to restart to finish the installation, which puts me back to the BSOD:(

Does this sound like my graphics card (NVidia 8800gts) has gone faulty?

Any advice appreciated all !

Hmm, does seem like the gpu has thrown a wobbler, happened to a Dell laptop of mine, soon as I loaded the GPU driver and rebooted I got BSOD, tried various options and all pointed the the GPU.

Is there a possibility of testing the card in another pc or another in yours.

Cheers for the quick reply:)

Just uninstalled the card in device manager and ran through the installing etc again, but still no joy, although now its 1024x768 screen res, but only in safe mode:(
No way of testing it, so might just have to buy a new one and hope its that:(

Sounds like a gpu problem.

Have u got an onboard gpu on your mobo? If so try pulling ur graphics card out, boot into windows and see if everything seems fine.

Also check if your gfx cards fan is working properly, it might be overheating.

No onboard I'm afraid, on the BSOD I'm getting nvlddmkm.sys come up, and a quick google brings up all sorts. A few people seem to have sorted the problem by reinstalling deleting files etc, so am currently working through a few web pages Ive found

Crack out Driver Cleaner to remove all traces of the drivers and install the ones that were last working for you (not always the newest is the best for older hardware) and see if that makes any difference.
