Whats faster?

On paper and in any game that makes full use of SLI then the 2x 8800GTS in SLI would be marginally faster than one GTX.

Fixed.

2 x X1900XT (or equivalent) = 1x 8800GTX
2 x 8800GTS > 1x 8800GTX

Of course it only applies in games that support SLi/Crossfire.

I would still recommend the GTX unless you can get the GTSes for an amazing price, the GTX would give the average user more performance than they would probably need. :)

2x 8800GTS have a fair bit higher shader capabilities than one GTX, but there aren't a lot of games currently that make heavy enough use of that to really show the power, plus you'd need quite a bit of CPU horsepower to push it, aside from the likes of 3D Marks you won't see a really huge fps difference...

the difference might show up more at higher res, dunno haven't been able to test that.

The OP should get 1x 8800GTX.
Whilst yes 2x SLI 8800GTS cards would offer slightly more performance in SLI optimized games (only under WinXP as Vista SLI is extremely poor), the 8800GTX will run everything you could want without the hassle of two cards & in all games.

I would go for 2 x 8800GTX Ultra's myself... But i can't afford it... :(
You would throw money away buying highly overpriced & underperforming cards like the 8800Ultra

I have just gone for 1 8800GTS at the moment due to them being cheap.
