What's going on here?! (2 odd problems)

Hi,

I have the graphical corruption as shown below from time to time, and I have no idea why! It occurs upon booting, but only once it's into windows (not during BIOS etc). A simple reboot cures it, and it rarely occurs twice in a row.
When it happens, the PC is completely usable, the only effect is that it is covered in lines.
I have re-installed Windows, but it is still like this;

2nd problem - occasionaly my keyboard locks up. None of the keys do anything, and CAPS will not light up etc. It is solved by unplugging the keyboard, and plugging it back in again. It is a PS2 keyboard. Occasionally, when plugging it back in, I will hear a single beep from the motherboard speaker.
Thing is, this problem occurs at seemingly non-random moments - e.g. after a crash or restart in LFS, or after dying in BF2 or sending a message on MSN. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

The artefacts are almost definately summat to do with the card itself! I get similar lines when I try to overclock my X1900 too high :D

Is the graphics card staying cool enough? What are the temps like. If it is overheating it may be the reason for your other peculiar problem.

Yeah try to take the graphic card clocks back a little

on the keyboard side of things, does the same thing happen with other keyboards? If so, its the PS/2 connecter or driver that causing the problem

GPU isn't overclocked, ATi tool finds no artifacts, and it's a 9800pro cooled with a 700cu, so is cold as ice!
No other keyboards around to test with unless I borrow one, but as it only happens once a day I can't really check it that easily.

The graphics problem is 99% a busted card. Its obviously not overheating but sometimes stuff just dies. Try another card in the system just to be sure.

This only happens once in every 20 boots though, the rest of the time its fine. Card peforms fine in games and benchmarks.

when you start getting those kind of displays it means your card is on its way out IMO...

All the gpu's I have had go faulty on me have started off like that and then died short while after....

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers? and if you have installed new drivers try the ones off the original CD

Don't have the original CD, but this has been going on for months and has got no worse, still just about 1 in 20 boots.
I've reinstalled windows at least once, and changed from ATi drivers to Omega, using several versions of each.

I got the same with a Ti4400 I had, after a few driver updates it was gone.

I never did figure out excactly what caused it but it looked like it started the moment the drivers initialized and the clockspeeds were set and as said after they made a newer driver it stopped happening.
