Hi,

My spec is q6600 running stock and 8gb of ocz 6400 800mhz memory.

Ive just loaded cpuz to see the speed of my ram (as i upped the voltage to 2.1 in bios so it runs at 1066mhz instead of 800mhz) , and its saying they are running at 400mhz (see pic below)

Whats going on?

Is this why im only getting a 4.8 score for the memory?

Also according to ocuk the timings are advertised as 5/4/4/18 , which they clearly arent.

Hi,

Just an update. Ive changed the timings in bios to the ones it says on the ocuk description.

But even though ive changed the ram voltage from 1.8 to 2.1 it still says its running 400mhz (800 ram)

Any ideas?

Changing the voltage and timings does not change the memory frequency. You need to find the section of your bios that allows you to manually set the memory frequency and set it to run 1066.

Hi,

Ive been into the bios and searched. The only option it had on memory frequency was spd, ddr400, ddr 667 or ddr800

It was on spd so changed it to 800mhz and still no difference.

Its an abit fatality F-I90HD micro atx board if that helps.

Sounds like your motherboard can't support 1066mhz ram and can only do 800mhz as a maximum. In short you wont improve it unless your going to replace your motherboard.

Hi,

Looks like it. Oh well, im not swapping the MB as ive only just bought it 2 days ago. Im happy tbh anyway withe stock speed, but am going to sort my cooling out tomorrow and then overclock to 3.2ghz or thereabout.

Matt

If you have the CPU linked to the RAM (something like that) then as the FSB goes up the RAM goes up in speed too. You may still be able to hit that magic 1066 speed.

I dont get that? , lol

You said to link to the CPU FSB, well if he reached 2000FSB (500) the memory would be at 1000mhz DDR Speed.

Its not as common as you may think even today to get 2000FSB or more.

So to get the Memory to run at 1066mhz DDR would mean his FSB would need be 2132mhz (533) if Linked.

Ahhh right. Well my MB wont go more than 800mhz anyway so im just gonna sort the cooling out, overclock the cpu to 3.2ghz or similar and make do with that. Like i said its very fast now anyway (old pc was athlon xp 2000+ and 1gb ddr 400 running vista lol)
