my pc began to overheat a while ago, getting idle cpu of 50+ degrees. this is definitely not a ventilation problem as i have cleaned everything out and my fans are working perfectly. i also cleaned my processor and reapplied thermal compound and it hasnt made a difference. by no means do i know what im doing in depth. just ran 3dmark and noticed especially poor performance on the cpu test. is my processor dying. any diagnostic programs i can run for free to find out what might be wrong.

Please report your 3D Mark score (including seperate CPU and graphics scores) here and tell us which version you ran.

It is normal for the CPU tests to be a slideshow and run at around 2 FPS.
 
ok, just ran 3d mark 03, got a score of 7500, used to get 10000. am running an athlon 64 3200+, 6800gt with 1gb of geil value ram on an asus k8n-e deluxe mobo. my cpu score on 3d mark is 137. so whats going on

just ran 3d mark 05. got a score of 2500, half of what i used to get before i started having these problems with cpu. cpu score is 615. any suggestions what the problem could be.
 
i had a A64 3200 Newcastle (skt 754) which used to idle at around 50 Degrees despite reseating the HS and applying Arctic Silver, what temp did your cpu idle at originally?
 
used to idle at around 30. the problem is, ive just had a massive drop in performance. the ventilation is fine. any diagnostic tools i can run to maybe find out what the problem is
 
maybe somethings using all it's processing power, check task manager to see where your cpu resources are going

perhaps you've a program in startup eating resources constantly
 
cpu usage is flicking between 0% and 2%. so no, got nothing running thats gona be eating up my processing power.still dont know whats wrong.
