Hi all, I dont know if it is just me or is anyone else having issues with downloaded games on steam. I have had a few games now that just wont launch at all, and some that just come-up with error's.

System is.
Win 7 pro fully updated
Asus M/B
i7 2700k @ 4.4
samsung men 16 gig
Gigabyte RX470
Storage all ssd

My system is bug free and running just fine.

Old games that work fine.

Company of heroes
Red Orchestra and some others like them.

The games that wont work are

Sniper elite 2
Arma 3
Wolfenstein a new breed etc.

The issue seems to be with games that I have just downloaded in the past few weeks or so.

Internet connection is fine, just abit slow due to been out in the sticks. (6mb, and around 1mb download at best) I was really pee'd of with the last download wolfenstein, as it took 14 hours to complete. "Yes it's like been back on dial-up again" :( Then when I try to run it, nothing, no errors just goes to launch and then goes back to steam account.

So has anyone esle been having this type of issue?

sata cable
my dad had this and it completely confused me, but it turned out to be either sata cable gone faulty, or it wasnt quite in the socket on the motherboard. turns out sata will downgrade itself in speed to try and maintain a connection, so a quick way to try is to run benchmark on the drive, and if u get like 5mb/sec then thats likely the issue, but some 3rd party controllers suck at benchmarks but are fine in normal use, so its not a 100% test.

his symptoms where games not completing updates and disk write error message on steam i think, but not 100% sure

Thnx for replies, I have done all of the suggested apart from reinstall of wolfenstein as it takes around 14 hours to download. Harddrive and cable are both fine. As I said it just seems to happen with new downloads. Iv'e got that mad with it I uninstalled steam altogether.:confused::mad: As for my software? I have had no issues with it, and other games, world of tanks, battlefield 1 etc, all work fine. I have reinstalled steam and it's still the same. old games which I have had on my account for ages download and play fine, it's just these new ones I got over the past few weeks that I have the issues with. I just dont understand why new downloads have problems.

Could be lots of things, did you manually install of the pre requisites of those games? & one thing to always do is verify the integrity of the cache as it usually finds missing files.

I had a game get flagged by my anti virus software. It downloaded but wouldn't launch. I had to remove my av, install the game and then reinstall my av.

never had an issue here either.
Have tried verifying the files?
Maybe try killing your AV processes to if thats the cause

Cheers for the replies, I am still at it, and there is still a problem with said games. I am going to try a different game to download and see if it happens with that one.

Anything overlaying? Rivatuna? Checked recent Windows Updates in the last month and removed them one by one to see if that solved it? Updated drivers recently? BIOS configuration look fine? No throttling or anything?

Also, move onto Windows 10, it's much better than Win 7 these days.

Had the exact same issues. Had to system rollback to a time last week. Seems to have been a windows update that goosed things.

Hi All,
I have now updated to win 10 pro, and have reinstalled steam. :) I am going to download wolfenstein new breed overnight as it takes 14hrs. :( Then I will try to launch the game tomorrow and see if it will work, so I will get back to you all later, and cheers for all the help so far.

you should run chdisk and view the report, you might have bad sectors, which it doesnt say when it says "ive fixed things!" or whatever
other one to run is hdtune, hd test and itll come up red where theres bad sectors
