Two days ago i was on www.autotrader.co.uk and everything was fine, in fact it's all still in my history. I was trying insurance sites, such as Bell.co.uk and Admiral.com and Elephant.co.uk
The sites themselves load up fine, but none of them and many others load up the quotes page. I get an error in firefox opera and IE all patched updated, latest Java Runtime, even tried Firefox and Opera portable.

I've checked my hosts file, nothing in it, i've flushed my DNS and i'm not totally out of ideas. These sites are definately working i've accessed them on my PDA no hassle, they work on my brothers PC (on the same network/internet) no problem too. I managed to get a quote on elephant by opening it on his PC copying the URL with session ID into my browser on my PC and everything worked fine.

Can anyone explain this? The other day it was only troubles with insurance sites, it seems to be spreading =/?

Heres my link to my previous thread in motors about the insurance sites not working just to check. I know for sure everything is :(

It works fine if i try it through the-cloak web proxy server too. What the hell can be going wrong?

Overnight without restarting my computer or browser Autotrader started working, great. I've still got the same problems with the insurance companies if anyone can help though?

This is the link i click to open up a javascript window
http://www.elephant.co.uk/oos2.php?js=f
That for some reason redirects to this:
http://www.elephant.co.uk/link.phtml
Which then redirects to this:
http://www.elephantinsurance.co.uk/...script=true&Start_session=GO!&MediaCode=defau

If that gives anything away i'd be most grateful for help?

Cheers

More trawling through the internet, i seem to have second guessed that dirrectly substituting "www" for "www2", in
Code:
http://www.elephantinsurance.co.uk/redirect?BranchID=EL&ProductID=INT&javascript=true&Start_session=GO!&MediaCode=defau
seems to do the trick, now i'd just like to know why? Is this their fault? Can anyone actually help me here? I guess i'm in the right forum?

try doing this.

start > run > type cmd > press enter > on black command promt > type ipconfig /flushdns > restart your browser.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be my end or theirs, since it works if i add www2 and it works straight off on my bros and another PC. As mentioned :p.

//Edit: Thats whats so random i was trying to track down what the hell it could be ie. DNS or something with my network, but its the fact its just MY computer, but its running the same updated copy of windows, with the same version browsers as the other PC that these sites work on, all on the same LAN .

Well exactly :p but what could it be, i've checked hosts file flushed dns, upgrade java runtime for the hell of it, tried patched uptodate IE, opera 9.01 firefox, and the portable versions of the last two. None work? Apart from my recently discovered www2 trick.

//Edit: And turned off any firewalls too.

I refuse to system restore because of this one (well few) site :p

Plus i've got it turned off, so that wont help, what date would i go back too? Its not like i know it was some kind of dodgy install.

Only thing i'm not sure of, is activesync, could that have borked something, its the only thing i have on this PC but no others.

//Edit: Actually no i'm wrong thats on the PC in the loft, forget that too :( :o

None at all, i'm straight into a netgear router, just a different port from the other two (obviously) tried two ports both same problems, i was clutching at straws i know.

It's quite the opposite, if i go through a web proxy that uses secure servers (because thats what these sites need) like the-cloak then it works!.

As i said i'm totally baffled i think i have tried EVERYTHING.
