Upgraded to ADSL2+ last tuesday and my connection has been acting strange to say the least.

First off I could connect at 16mb no problems. The connection started dropping out. Its slowly got slower until I can only connect at 8mb? I am now back to the speed I was BEFORE the upgrade?

I am only 700m from the exchange and have good line stats.

ReceiveAttenuation_dB= 25
ReceiveMargin_dB= 18
SendAttenuation_dB= 14
SendMargin_dB= 23

I have a belkin router - could this be at fault? It can stay connected for a whole day but does mess up on the odd occasion?

Your SNR margin's fairly high if you're at 8Mbps on ADSL2+. If it was crapping out, it sounds like something stepped in and increased the target SNR margin.

Must be the router then because its now slower than it was on a crappy usb modem.

If I buy a new router, will my profile eventually change (if its the problem)?

Oh the joys of broadband. :D

Phoned tech support as my profile dropped to 4500 (lol) and they are getting BT to have a look most probably tomorrow.

My line keeps getting slower and slower where as on normal adsl (same line) it was constant 6500 profile. :(

Just an update. Connecting at 9,750kbps and got a profile of 8,000 and it is a lot more stable than before (no idea exactly what they did).

Quick speed test pulls in 7.35mb's. Wonder if my profile can go higher?

You're not on ADSL2+ then.

ADSL2+ don't use profile rates, and with your line attenuation and with a decent SNR, you should get well over 13mb.

Update. ADSL24 now offer an LLU unlimited service which I just got migrated to today.I can now connect at 13852kbps and pull in 12mb/s download :)

I have been stuck at 4mb for weeks due to BT and their awful profiling system. No more! :D

I missed this:

You're not on ADSL2+ then.

ADSL2+ don't use profile rates, and with your line attenuation and with a decent SNR, you should get well over 13mb.

You what? ADSL2+ from BT Wholesale does use profile rates, and a sync rate >8128kbps wouldn't have been possible on ADSL anyway.

Just got a netgear DG834GT and;

ADSL Link ---------Downstream ---Upstream
Connection Speed 18265 kbps 1386 kbps
Line Attenuation ---28.0 db -------16.2 db
Noise Margin -------3.1 db--------3.4 db

:D

Thats with custon SNR at 3 and interleaving off. :)
