Ok I'm currently on ADSL pipex 2mb. Recently the standard of my internet particularly peak hours has been horrible. Not particularly the download rate but when it comes to playing online games. Huge amounts of packet loss and choke. Often when connection to the internet its hit and miss if I will get a stable connection. Sometimes for and hour or so after connection my ping will spike on gaming servers.

I want basically a 2mb unlimited package that would be good for gaming. Has to be a BT line because I don't want to switch telephone providers.

2MB unlimited
BT connection
Good for gaming (good routing/little or no packet loss)

Oh also how do I go about switching? I'm not entirely sure, there won't be any cancellation fees or anything I have been with pipex for over 4 year now.

as long as you have been with pipex for 12 months + then there is no fee. all you have to do is cancel and join up with another ips and you will have the net up and runing with in 14 days after signup

thats Bts 14 day wait for you ;)

here is a list of isps
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/summarylist.asp?order=tco2048k

if u aint bin with pipex for long then it will cost u about £45.00 + VAT use to be 57 quid

I'm not such a numpty that I can't find a list of the cheapest isps' :p

What I'm after is user opinions on which ISP's would be/are good for online gaming. Good routing etc.

:D

best thing u can do is find some 1 u know and ask them what isp r they with and ask if there anygood

or browse some forums see what ppl r on and ask if there any good

i cant realy help as im on pipex lol, i get the odd peak day where the net is slow as well but, u will find that on most ips. becuz there are all over loaded now days with big downloaders and torrent users

pipex as had a bad month as well, it also could be your exchange as well upgrading, as i know most of them are atm for adsl2 services

Do you really need unlimited?

If so, you're restricted to AOL or Eclipse, basically.

If you can live with a cap, you've got much more of a choice.

But are such one that you can't spot the "Compare" link, that uses ratings given by users of the respective ISPs? :p

Haha, no I've seen that also :P BUT it just gives you a crappy bar chart comparing. Hardly helpfull I would rather have opinions. I would check ADSLguide forums but they are the most horrible forums to navigate around I have ever seen :p

I'm a little confused with the whole bandwidth restriction thing. I don't do a huge deal of downloading BUT I do play a lot of online games how much bandwidth do games take? What would be a good bandwidth restriction? 40GB?

Do all you guys have restricted? or unlimited?

Depends on the game.

Depends on the price. Bear in mind you're looking at £1 a GB (roughtly) for the price to be sensible.

"Unlimited" (for now).

That's kinda the point.

You'll get more opinions from more folks there than you will here.

Haha, thanks for the answers. Like I said though ADSL forums are an eye sore they really are. Gives me a headache just looking at them.

Could it be that this month is just a bad month for ISP's since BT are supposedly updating a lot of exchanges including mine to support up to 8mb as apposed to 2mb?
