I'm keeping my q6600 system as its running in a brand new case with & new artic freezer cooler. ( even if i didnt use it id keep it as it seems every one wants it for free ). I will overclock to 2.8 - 3.0 ish , ill be taking from my new system the 500watt enermax psu when i upgrade and also my gtx 560 and keeping it running in my q6600 machine .

My new motherboard has 3 PCI E slots , the gtx 560 are £93 refurbished , are these worth buying more of? i notice these are pretty much the exact same as gtx 460s? . or

gtx 570 £ 170 refurb
gtx580 £ 203 refurb

also OCuk has 560 Ti for £143 on offer now aswell.

id like to buy 3 x 580 and a new psu at one but that will cost a fortune

what to buy? !!! what will work out best in terms of power vs ppd?

560 or 560ti and a new psu

You are looking at around 170-200W per gpu, so for 3 I'd go for a 850-1000W PSU of the Silver or Gold variety (depending on whether you get the Ti version or not)

You may have that number of PCIe slots on your motherboard, but using them all will throttle the bandwidth available to each card? I have no idea whether that could compromise the maximum performance. I do know I gave up trying a two carded ATI 5770 crossfire setup on my old Q6600 board as this bottlenecked performance playing Battlefield 3, yet became fine once I upgraded the CPU/motherboard to an i7 2600K.

is the TI worth £50 more? the gtx 560 are evga superclocked ones at £93

Second hand 580s are going for around 140/150 at the moment if you look around. Rumour has it that a certain Mr Biffa has a number of 590s for sale ;)

i dont have MM access im affraid , ebay seems expensive from looking

is this true biffa? gtx 590?

heres my new system taking shape, no point in making the cables tidy, the psu wont be staying much longer in this pc , neither will the crappy standard intel heatsink

I dont smoke
i dont drink ( maybe 2/3 times a year)
i dont really go out , well i never go out to clubs , kids , work nights most weekends
i live 3 miles from work

money saved from these things covers it :D , its a hobby aswell, i could sped £400 on a new exhaust for my leon cupra, but i get nothing from it , imagen £400 worth of leccy in a year . im sweet :D:D:D

plus when i got to work, my girlfreind turns the PC of when she goes to bed so it gets a few hours rest a night , now its coming colder i think ill keep it on all the time, cuts the cost of heating the house inaway.. my q6600 can stay on with a gtx 560 all the time

Not really, you may get something like 10-15% more performance, so judging by your costs probably not.

The truth is out there :) We can't discuss stuff outside the MM unfortunately, however the going rate for a 590 seems to be somewhere between £260-£270

For that you get effectively 2 GTX580's on a single card slightly underclocked, for less than the power of two cards, its about 240W for one 580 and 340W for a 590. If you want to discuss the merits further feel free to email my trust.

Make sure you estimate the leccie cost. Running 200W all year long at 13p/unit is £228/year on the bill.

During the previous 12 months you used

15,454 kWh of gas

12,473 kWh of electricity

my question to you , what are you planning inplace of gtx 590s!! and how many are you using now ?

infact just what are running altogether? as your ppd is just high as hell

by the way i cant find your email? says i have to register with yahoo , but myn is. [email protected]

lets make it a marathon instead of a sprint, with it been x-mas it'll work better all around. The more time i give for buying parts the better parts ill end up with. But i'm very impatient and want everything right away!

Well I was going to try and run 4 GTX590's in one rig, bought all the parts etc but things just kept getting in the way of the build, time, work, other commitments. Such that I decided to cut my losses (substantial though they are) and go in another direction.

I still think it would have been an awesome rig :)

For Folding@Home, Currently most of my production comes from 2 x 48 core servers, although the points have been severely chopped back on them recently (by half)

I also have my quad GTX 470 folding whilst the beta WU's are flowing, but that normally does Seti@Home, so nothing is getting any Seti love right now.

I also do Milkyway@home and have a HD5870, HD6850 and HD7970 running on that.

Oh and my laptop does various Boinc tasks, not a lot of points but they all help the team :)

so you paid for 4 x 590s plus all the extras? you must be dam rich!

the 2 470s i had were brilliant but the heat and electric was just stupid

what do you have in the pipeline if you shift/when these 590s?

@ozaudio I think it's worth considering the GTX 570, perhaps not as good ppd per watt as the 560 but not too much worse, I picked one up yesterday off the MM for £95, they seem to go for low £100 odd on the bay.

Is that what you're paying?
I pay a standing charge of 21.92p a day for my leccy, then 9.23p per kWh

Slacker! :p
Seriously though, I thought it would be more with all you've got running, that's a daily average of 34.17 kWh, I've been averaging 26 kWh myself the past week just with a 2700K, 3550K, 3770K and a single GTX 570, the Ivys both only crunch at around 120W.

Not rich just stupid :) Seriously I sold a bunch of stuff to pay for the 590's well 75% of them :)

Most of my stuff is watercooled so the heat isn't a problem

4 GTX 590's in one rig  With the QRB beta stuff that would have become truly excessive :D

Yes the 470's alone are impressive enough when they get the nice WU's

Yes thats just the one Quad x 12 core Opteron box, my network stuff, my desktop ([email protected] + 7970 doing Milkyway) + the usual various household appliances.

The other opteron box and weebeastie with the 470's are in different locations, if anyones interested my Folding@Home stats are live here

3570k > 3 x ??? but my electricity has gone down 25pence in 2 hours, thats just the computers + 1 tv on. im thinking maybe now using the q6600 aswell may NOT be a good idea

imagen extra gpus and the other house items, gota be around £7 a day i bet?

EDIT - just sold the q6600 LOL , 1500-2000ppd not worth the electric, helps fund somthing else ;)
