Anyway, the problem is basically that my vertex 1 120gb SSD isn't recongnised by anything (No Os, not in other comps, not by the bios etc). Also my Optical drive seems to almost have the same problem, except that under certain circumstances it randomly works (read further on).
Anyhow I managed to pick a BF3 copy up from a retailer yesterday, got quite excited about waiting to play it. Started up my computer like normal when I got home and tried to open the disk tray. It wasnt having any of it. Nor was windows recongnising it.
Anyhow I figured I would sort it this morining... so I open up the comp check all the cables are plugged in firmly etc. Tried rebooting and got nothing. Turn it off half way through booting into windows and decide to try other things (wish I hadn't done this).
Anyhow I tried swapping round some connectors on my psu thinking its a power problem... tried known working connectors and got nothing.
Next boot still no optical drive response at startup, I then get a bsod.. I think the error code was literally a bunch of 0's with 7B at the end. Anyhow.. I figured it was due to me turning the comp off at boot so much.
I restarted anyway, went into the bios and had a look for the optical drive in there.. not only was it not there. Niether was my SSD anymore..
Anyhow, another restart and this time I couldnt boot because the SSD wasnt found, so it tried to boot from an old HDD partition which didnt really work (windows wanted startup repair for it).
Before this goes on too long to get the pair working ive tried:
- getting rid of all connectors going into the psu other than the one with the optical drive and SSD on, including getting the gfx cards out 1 at a time and the sound card.
- trying different connectors on the sata power cable
- trying different sata power cables (new one and the one that im using now to power the current hard drives)
- switching round the sata cables thinking it could be dodgey cables (hard drives worked through the SSD and optical cables... so it cant be the cables or the mobo ports)
- I tried the SSD and optical drive in another computer (optical drive works fine... SSD is kinda seen in the bios in some wierd mode but you cant boot from it nor access it in windows). (So I know there both not totaly dead).
- Anything else I forgot..
And 3 times the optical drive has been recongnised, but thats literally just by itself twice and with the ssd plugged in once. (Other than that I had a gfx card and my ram I guess).
If anything needs clarifying just say, totally out of ideas. Was messing with it for nearly 8 hours straight today to get nothing.
Edit: Forgot to say, took the battery out and left the comp for a bit. Nothing came from that, nor did anything come from flashing the BIOS to the latest version. The comp has been oced before but wasnt since the problems have occured.
