Just curious to see what HD setups people have and what films they have in their collection.

PS3 Blu-Ray through LG32LX3R (New sound system coming soon to take advantage of the PCM audio from Blu-Ray)

Blu-Ray Films

Training Day (Region Free from US)
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (Region B)
Hellboy (Region B)
L4yer Cake (Region B)
Hitch (Region B)
Stranger than Fiction (Region B)
Kung Fu Hustle (Region B)
Black Hawk Down (Region B)
Casino Royale (PS3 Freebie)

So 9 BD's in total! Paid about £9-10 for each :D

I've got these HD films:

Black Hawk Down
Fight Club
Gladiator
Amelie
American Beauty
American Psycho
Matrix Triology
The Bourne Supremacy + Identity
Leon
Crash
Casino Royale
Babel
Man on Fire
Se7en
La Haine
Full Metal Jacket
Layer Cake
Syriana
Plant Earth - amaazing

Pretty sure I wont get many more for now as for a lot of films its kind of pointless to have in HD - The Matrix, Gladiator, Ameile and Se7en are amazing in HD. I'm itching for the early James Bonds to be remastered and put on Blu Ray but have no idea when it will happen.

:/ Are people really buying the same films they have on DVD in HD-DVD? It seems like the most pointless investment ever. At least VHS-DVD had multiple advantages. Buying the same product over and over again, talk about capitalism at its finest.

HD DVD

Nacho Libre
Batman Begins
King Kong
Planet Earth (best by a long way)
Superman Returns (crashes my machine)

Talk about jumping to a conclusion - who says we have these titles in DVD format? The difference between the two for some films is well worth the investment imo.

hd dvd-
forbidden planet
the thing
the deer hunter
total recall
equilibrium
riddick (riddick being my favourite....looks stunning)

Just ordered :-

Mission Impossible Trilogy (Blu-Ray Region B)
Rocky Balboa (Blu-Ray Region B)

All for the grand total of £19 :D

got Casino royale which is crap on blu ray freebie from Playstation.

Thinking about Black HAwk Down next, one of my favourite films.

Also how do they make films like Full Metal jacket etc into high defintion and stuff? When they were filmed in all crappy cameras etc from the 80's.

Off the top of my head

HD-DVD

Batman begins
V for vendetta
Syriana
The departed
World Trade Centre
Ultimate matrix
Bourne Supremacy
Hulk
King Kong

Blu-ray

Casino Royale
Training Day
Tears of the sun

I'm just hoping they ramp up the releases on both formats now, as I don't like buying dvds anymore having seen the potential that blu-ray and hd-dvd offer

Just wish I could afford a surround sound setup to take advantage of the PCM soundtracks.

because those 'crappy' film cameras are capable of resolutions far higher than 1080p.

Old films can be 'made' into hd because they were recorded on film which doesn't have pixels, so in theory has an infinite resolution, the resolution of the digital copy all depends on how they scan the film when converting it to a digital format to stick on dvd/hd-dvd/blu-ray.

Casino royale is good on blu-ray purely in terms of the picture quality, its one of the better blu-ray transfers from what i've seen and read.

Just got my Rocky Balboa and MI Boxset. Rockys quite good, the fight scenes are pretty sharp and the flying blood is pretty impressive. Not got around to watching the MI yet, will maybe make a bash on them tonight!

If they don't charge reasonable prices for HD material then I will continue enjoying HD movies by other means.

The Bond Ultimate releases that were done recently were scanned from the original negatives at 4096pixels across iirc. *Something around that anyway*

Thats from standard 35mm film. 6000pixels has been experimented with and when you step up to 70mm film then you can get some enormously large files.

Very time consuming and very expensive. Very good results though.

Both HD formats are pretty reasonably priced already in my opinion when you consider that many of releases are region free and you look at companies that import them from the US.

I just had a quick look, and 300 can pre-ordered for 14.99 on dvd from uk retailer, or 17.99 on hd-dvd from the states. 3 quid for 1080p, improved audio, and much better menu systems seems a bargain to me.
