It takes a bit for my diesel car to warm up, and my kids are freezing, I have heard about an addative you can put in your car that helps to warm the engine quicker- trouble is I cant remember its name.

So can someone help?

sounds like something I wouldn't in my diesel car at the best of times.

have you checked that your thermostat is not stuck open.

WHy can't you just leave your kids in the house, or put more clothes on them?

*while it warms up

If I were you I'd just nip out 5 minutes before everyone's fully ready to leave and turn it on, crank the heating up etc; any ice will be gone and it'll be nice and toasty by the time you get in it.

Not very good for the engine though.

Get in and drive.

What about the ice and misty screen.

I know you can scrape the ice off but there isn't much you can do about a misty screen.

Other than to wait 5 mins or so whilst the air con clears it.

Please don't tell me you drive with a misted up screen, that would be very special indeed.

Demisting pad?

I normally just put the windscreen clear mode on, get out and scrape the car, and by the time the car is scraped the inside is also clear.

Pads are OK but from my experience they tend to clear the screen and then proceed to mist up again.

Leaving your car to idle for 5 mins in cold weather is not going to destroy it.
