I'm back baby!
Local businessman selling his wife's car. What do you reckon it's worth?

Our much Loved SAAB 9-3 2.0TDI Vector Convertible. Very well looked after and excellent condition. Will have a full MOT and has just had major service. Had the Water pump and Timing Belt Done les than 24 months ago so won't need for another 50,000 miles. Mileage 95000 with Full Service History

Bit of an off-the-wall suggestion to replace mine, would only be temporary and then the Mrs would inherit it. Also is there any other major work you guys know about that it would need?

Cheers :)

3k or just under for that spec I'd say. Vector is reasonably high spec and although a diesel saab convertible probably sounds like hell to most people here, a pretty high spec mpg wagon is a pretty popular thing.

Nice one, cheers. He's wanting a bit more than that (£3.5k) and although I used to play poker with him, and football against him, they were both some time ago so I doubt I'll get mates rates. It did seem a bit on the high side for a ten year old car.

Never minded the looks of a Saab. Are parts difficult to get hold of these days?

Meet him at 3k and you'll have a decent deal.

No issue with parts, a lot of the engine etc are GM bits. Otherwise there's a company set up from the shell of saab to sell genuine parts (saab parts UK) as well as several good specialists (neo brothers, parts for Saabs etc). The 9-3 is no more difficult to to run than a vauxhall

There was an episode of Wheeler Dealers about a Saab 9-3. Apparently Saab parts aren't hard to get hold of. Also, the online Saab community is very helpful.

Personally I wouldn't buy a diesel convertible.

Fwiw the wheeler dealers is the OG 9-3 (original generation) so much less GM than this.

The Saab community is absolutely amazing. When I bought my 9-5 it had an ABS fault which meant a new control unit (150 quid for a refurb) or pump (£600-£1000). Someone had a spare pump and control unit and offered it for postage, I insisted on paying a bit more. That was after another member spent an hour with me and his Tech2 (diagnostic computer) with no interest in being paid for it. And now only recently, another Saab forum member (who's also an OCUK er :)) Sent me an ECU for free so I could get a remap.

I've been absurdly staggered by how good the community is, they all really know their stuff and have a real passion for the cars and want to see them cherished. You can say what you like about the cars but you rarely see such good community spirit on other manufacturer forums

I have to wonder why you'd buy this - a convertible diesel is always an... odd... concept but especially a convertible diesel with an old GM 1.9 in it.

Women love this sort of thing. Pretty, fairy modern and omgmpgz. Not what I'd buy but I know the sort of person who would. For a couple of grand though it's not exactly a huge waste of money

If it lasts a couple of years and keeps her happy I'd be well chuffed :)

It might be that if I take it for a drive I can't stand it, but there's no great loss in giving it a go.

Have to agree with Fox here, personally I've never got the concept of a Diesel convertible no matter what it was I see lovely SLK convertibles pass me and think yes in so many ways but just no to a diesel one..

Perhaps I'm just averse to the smell of diesels along with that "wind in the hair" experience? I dunno, it just doesn't work for me.

If a rag top is what'll keep her happy then get her one that'll not leave soot in her hair. :D
