What's Milton Keynes like?

My folks live there and it seems like a fine place to live as far as I can tell. Great ents and shopping but you will find it hard to get about without a car.

milton keynes

been here 24 years and we like it, lots to do and very green for a large town. I have a stream going past our front garden. car is a must though, you can go 11 miles from one side to another ( bletchley to newport pagnell )

Ah, you got lost on the roundabouts whilst trying to follow the signs to the center too?

Samtheman1k, it's not bad assuming you've got a car and find a nice area, but it can be very disorientating especially if you rely on the signs (buy a detailed map of the area and keep it in the car - if you've got two cars buy two).

Nice enough, lots of space and nice parks, plenty of shops and decent nightlife but I found it a bit soulless to be honest, dunno why just didn't like it!

That said my mate lives there and really likes it!

Lots of parks/lakes
Big shopping centre
Good transport connections (m1 A5 A421/2)

Rubbish hospital
Lots of sucky dodgy areas
too many roundabouts
traffic jams on major routes @ peak

It's a very nice place to live actually. Lots of nice green parks.

The grid system may be confusing at first but you get used to it after a while.

Lots of entertainment, the city is also still growing so plenty more plans to go further with the place.

It's generally OK, but some blocks in the grid are a bit rough, problem is they are difficult to spot. Two blocks with houses in, built at the same time to the same standard and only separated by one of the main roads might be totally different with large differences in house prices. As almost everything is less than 20 years old, even the rough bits still look quite tidy, you need to look at things other than how run-down the houses look.

i disagree, choice galore
Provided you don't mind taxis or have a designated driver maybe...

If you go to the centre you have Lloysd, Oceana, Revolution, Old orleans, a Whetherspoons of some description, and.. some other place I can never remember.

All of which are the most godawful places you could care to find :p

It's Motorcycle Heaven , big 70 mph roundabouts linked by 70 mph dual carriageways

It most certaily is :D
I bought a 600 Yammy from there and test drove it between a few roundabouts. After i bought it i put it in my van and got off home. A few days later i rode down to MK just to rip round the place on my bike. It's almost perfect as the roundabouts are wide and fast with perfect Blap bits between them.
Not as good as my favourite bike road which is the A444 but still it is definetly great for bikes.
Seemed to be a lot of woman about aswell whcih is always good :)

Since when has MK been a city? lol, i used to live in Newport Pagnell back when i was younger. I still don't understand why the area is branded just MK when its basically just villages/small towns joined together.
