What's more important in a monitor?

So I'm looking for an IPS 1440p 27in monitor to sit next to my IPS Dell.

I'm looking to expand on my Dell's capabilities by adding either a higher refresh rate, gsync, or both.

Now there only seem to be a couple of options that tick all the boxes and both seem to be plagued by QC issues, pending the xb271hu hitting shelves on a larger scale. Not to mention they aren't cheap!

So I'm considering maybe just gsync (which adds a considerable premium, but is supposed to be amazing), or a higher refresh rate screen. I do play some fps games, although at 1440p I'm unlikely to get 120fps or more from my single 980ti so this might be useless without gsync. My Dell isn't the most responsive monitor (U2711), so the idea of a nippy monitor does interest me. I'm not bothered by 60fps gaming at present

So what would you guys do? Play the panel lottery on the £700+ monitors to have my cake and eat it, or drop a feature to get something more affordable and reliable. If the latter, what would you suggest?

Well, do you notice any considerable lag or ghosting on your U2711?

Because if you don't i'd just get another to sit alongside it.

Where's the fun in that?! :D I want to improve on the Dell (and it also bugs me that my secondary monitor isn't the same size or resolution). While I'm not massively unhappy with the Dell for gaming, I do hate the stutter that can happen with frame drops, and I'm also curious about whether the high refresh rates are as smooth and delicious as everyone says.
