What's more powerful?

Well in terms of playing high-end games both these cards will fail, specially the 3450 maybe you might be able to run some of the high end games on low settings with the 8600m such as Crysis but there is a chance the game could stutter.

Check out 3450 review here http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1303/1/sapphire_radeon_hd_3450_and_hd_3650/index.html

Check out review and benches of 8600m here http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8600M-GS.3707.0.html

After reading the reviews of both cards the 3450 sounds very poor, the 8600m is definitely much more powerful!

They're both pretty rubbish, but the 8600 is better.

I have an 8600M GT in this laptop, it runs most games on medium-high at 1280x800.

Yeah a 8600 is fine, unless you pay some crazy premium for a screen that will run some stupid resolution that you can't look at anyway :P

That's the point in laptop graphics, the resolution is a lot lower than desktops so they don't need as powerful graphics cards. But to be honest the 9600 is already there in a lot of laptops for the same or lower price than the 8600 so why not go for that one, espically with the problems with 8600s failing?
