What's my next move.

So I have a Benq 2410T which is a few years old. Loving the 120hz. Don't think I would want to go back to 60hz.

I have 680 sli 2GB and BF4 (old game now I know) runs buttery smooth, which is what I mostly play on PC.. The cards OC reasonably well (+100 core +200 mem).

Just wondering what is the next move to enhance my gaming experience.

I presume to play newer games I'm going to suffer with the VRAM. And I know there are 1440p and 4k screens about.

Lets say I have a 1k to spend. Do I sli a couple of cheap 970s? or 980s?

Or by a new screen and a 980ti or even a Titan X.

I'm happy with what I've got...but don't really know what could improve my gaming experience.

If you are happy with what you have you could stick with it until you are not happy any longer and your 1k budget will get you more bang for your buck as new products come out, prices drop etc.

Or do you have an itch that needs to be scratched now?

I have an itch. That needs to be scratched!

Really worried about buying a monitor.

I feel like I'm particularly unlucky on the monitor front. I know I'll get a dead pixel!

Plus to be honest my monitor I'm happy with, is a 1440p monitor really a massive difference? Is there more picture? More detail?

Ah that pesky itch! ;)

The higher resolution screen will offer more clarity/detail to the image, you could also get a Gsync capable screen with 144hz, but of course higher res and higher refresh rates need more GPU grunt to run it.

Its a matter of what is more important to your gaming enjoyment/experience really.

I'm thinking what ever I do needs to last me over 3 years.

I've had my 680 sli for over 3 years.

Maybe a 980ti now. That'll see me no real difference at the moment compared to my 680sli. Then get another down the line for sli. And a monitor when 1440p become cheaper next year.

Thinking I'll keep one 680 for physx. And MM the other one for £70

That sounds like a good plan, the 980ti should see you well for a good while, particularly if you add another one later!

Its just 600£ for perhaps no real gain. That's the beef I have.

It could be worth it to hang fire until after AMD's card reveal in a couple of days, if their cards are very competitively priced Nvidia may be forced to reduce the price of their cards slightly to a price that will be easier to swallow. It is just so hard to make predictions in the PC hardware market though so who knows what could happen.

Looking now. A guy is actually selling his ref 980ti x2 for 500 a piece. No takers...he decided they were a bad buy based on his current setup. Got them cheap too.

I'd say the next logical upgrade would be 1440p@120Hz (or 144Hz). So...

A monitor is better for the long term, but there are a few caveats. First off, the price. Currently an IPS 1440p monitor with 120/144Hz is costly, especially with the addition of G-sync or Free-Sync. Therein lies another issue, if you get a Free-Sync monitor, then only AMD cards will benefit so you are in effect locked in to one brand of card. G-Sync is also more costly. I will also add that these technologies currently only work via DisplayPort and as such, the monitors often only have a single DisplayPort for I/O. Though now we are starting to see better equipped monitors with at least DP and 2 HDMI. On the monitor front, I'd say you are fine with what you have.

Then there's graphics cards. This is the big one. Unless you have the graphical hardware capable of powering the latest games at 1440p above 60fps, then what's the point? Currently there isn't a single card that can effectively maintain 60fps at 1440p without reduction in games settings. Or one that's close to a decent cost at least. Your best bet is to wait for the die shrink (next year). There's expected to be a good gain in performance. There's also new cards being released in a few days. Perhaps AMD Fury might be an idea depending on the performance and price?

Long story short: Wait till next year to go 1440p120Hz. I don't even think there are 4k monitors that do more than 60fps.

Keeping a 680 for physx is going to do more harm from blocking airflow than good.

Personally I would get a G-sync 1440p monitor as even if your 680s struggle, G-sync will hide it really well. Maybe a 980ti as well if you start playing non SLI games.
