What's needed to play a X264 mkv file?

Hey all,

Just downloading a 720p video file which is an X264 MKV file, what codecs/apps do I need to play this?

vlc should play just about everything? or if you dont want to use a different player: ffdshow should do it.

VideoLAN or Media Player Classic with CoreAVC codec is best.

videolan.org - you won't need anything else to play anything else, seriously VLC will play *anything* without any codecs etc
