Question for all those living in Norwich, what's it like to live there?
I've got a new job at the airport and I'm currently looking for a B&B to stay in.

What's the area around the airport like?
Any areas to avoid?
Crime?

Cheers,

Neil.

Nice - I actually miss it. Damn sight better than Coventry or Stevenage anyway.
Road system is a bit archiac though - not a single motorway in Norfolk.
Area's to avoid - Larkman estate
Crime - normal to be honest. Avoid Riverside and Prince of Wales Street on a Friday/Saturday night if you are alone.

Remember, the Hospital is a teaching Hospital, lots of drunk student nurses around. ;)

Cheers Flibster, do you mean Lakenham?

I'll be staying around the Hellesdon and Catton areas, ever been around those before?

Neil.

It's a lovely place. Pity it's miles away from anywhere else but that's probably why it's relatively unspoilt ;)

Nope, Larkman estate is a dreadful place. Fireworks night they usually board up the doors and windows and especially the letter boxes!!

Hellesdon and Catton, They're pretty normal tbh. Nothing special but nothing cacky.

Depending on if you are doing shifts or not, a car is pretty essential. The busses during the day are reliable though.

Oh, ignore the Norfolk jokes. We're not all related. There's 500'000 people in Norwich. Two surnames... but 500'000 people.

Good to hear about Hellesdon and Catton :)
Hopefully I'll only need to take my car the first week I'm there, can get a lift from then on with a colleague.

The Colman's factory is nearby! :D

Not Colmans anymore. Name changed when they were bought a few years ago. :(
And they moved the shop from it's traditional place as well. :(

Although, Lotus are still local. :D

I have only been there once, on my way to a lovely long weekend break on the broads. I found it to be a very nice place and after a while you get used to the people with six fingers!

Ignoring the normal for Norfolk and delia jokes, it's a great place to live, but perhaps I'm being a little bias. I'm just about to go out, but i'll post some more on the city later.

Well it's where I live, so i guess I'm bias. Lot's of nice places, the city centre is cool because it is all close together, lots of shops, and in the right areas lots of decent pubs ;)

Ignore the naff night spot areas like riverside / prince of wales road and you are sound on a night out.

As for residential, ignore Larkman, mile cross and some of Heartsease. haellesdon is fine, but a bit out in the middle of nowhere, Catton is nice, mix of old and new housing, close to city :)

Need any more specific info fel free to ask :)

Apparently there was a plan for the pedestrianization of Norwich city centre but certain people were against it. They said that traders need access to DI-XONS!
Although they do say it would help people in WHEEEEELCHAIRS ! ;)
